Our Environment
At Marsden Cove Marina, we are committed to operating in ways that help protect and preserve our marine ecosystem, and we support our community to do the same.
Whangārei Harbour
Whangārei Harbour stretches 23 kilometres inland from the harbour heads to the city of Whangārei. The harbour supports diverse marine life, including fish nursery areas, shellfish beds, and important bird habitats.
The harbour entrance, where Marsden Cove is located, was formed by ancient volcanic activity. The distinctive Whangārei Heads rising on either side of the entrance are volcanic remnants approximately 16-21 million years old, creating the dramatic coastal landscape we see today.

Environmental Practices
Our 2.5-hectare hardstand is fully sealed with asphalt, preventing ground contamination.
Waste Management
- We provide comprehensive waste management facilities including:
- Zero-tolerance policy for the dumping of raw sewage into the marina
- Rubbish and recycling cage (gate code access required)
- Waste oil drum inside the rubbish cage
- Two sewage pump-out stations (located at the top of A-Pier and at the top of the fuel dock)
Marine Biosecurity
New Zealand’s biosecurity is critical to protecting our marine environment. As a designated port of entry, the Ministry for Primary Industries (MPI) and New Zealand Customs meet all arriving vessels at our customs berth on C-Pier in order to clear all arriving vessels and ensure biosecurity requirements are met.
